Mid-Life Adventures Await

Welcome to The Mid-Lifers!

We are Jim and Lesley, two very average fifty-somethings who have been married for over 25 years and are discovering that midlife might just be our most adventurous chapter yet.

We have two sons we adore: Ben, 22, a recent university grad currently backpacking through Australia, Fiji and New Zealand; and Andrew, 18, finishing high school and preparing for his own next chapter.

When the boys were little, our travels were comfortable and familiar — annual trips to Bermuda, the magic of Disney, and vacations that felt safe, easy, and predictable. And we loved every minute of it.

But somewhere in midlife, something shifted.

We began to see the world differently. It felt vast and full of possibility. Places we once considered too far, too unfamiliar, or too far outside our comfort zone suddenly felt exciting instead of intimidating. We used to hesitate at destinations where we didn’t speak the language. Now, we lean into them.

As we tiptoe toward our empty-nest chapter — part excitement, part “what on earth will we talk about without the kids around?” — we’ve found ourselves not slowing down, but speeding up. We’re planning bigger adventures, choosing experiences over ease, and saying yes more often than no.
